Parks Renewal Project

The City of Plattsburgh is home to a wealth of natural resources, scenic views, and outdoor recreation opportunities, including several public parks. In the wake of the closure of the City's Recreation Department, it's understood that a planning effort to guide the City's decisions with respect to its parks is crucial. Therefore, the City is launching an effort to expand upon its 2021 Recreation and Public Park Assessment as well as its 2021 City Parks Required Maintenance & Recommended Upgrades Report through a Parks Renewal Project. 

Based on an initial evaluation by the City, five parks have been identified as key opportunity areas and will be addressed in the Parks Renewal Project: Melissa Penfield Park, Peter S. Blumette Park, South Acres Park, South Platt Street (Fox Hill) Park, and US Oval Park. This Project will complement the City's ongoing development of a Comprehensive Plan, which identifies the community's vision for future development and outlines the City's policies and objectives.

South Platt (Fox Hill) Park

South Platt Street (Fox Hill) Park offers visitors year-round recreational opportunities. During the warm months, visitors can utilize sporting fields/courts and a playground. During the cold months, visitors can participate in sledding and skating on the seasonal ice rink.

South Acres Park

196 participants

South Acres Park is largely utilized for sports, including baseball, softball, pickleball, basketball, and horseshoes.

U.S. Oval Park

US Oval Park is located within the United States Oval Historic District, a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Melissa Penfield Park

Melissa Penfield Park is one of the City's most visited parks.

Peter Blumette Park

Peter S. Blumette Park is located within a residential neighborhood on the western edge of the City.
