Project Summary
The City of Plattsburgh has embarked on a significant restoration project to address the longstanding issues with City Hall's historic roof.
Two years ago, concerns about leaks prompted the city to engage an engineering consulting firm to evaluate the condition of the over 100-year-old copper roof, which had been previously coated with heavy lead paint to prevent water intrusion.
Despite the more recent efforts to seal the original roof, the roof had and has continued to leak, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive repairs. After a rigorous bidding process, Mid-State Industries, known for their expertise in sheet metal and roofing, was selected to undertake this crucial work.
The restoration project, costing approximately $1.5 million, is fully funded through the city's general fund.
The craftsmanship involved in this project is extensive and intricate, aiming to recreate the original appearance of the roof while employing modern techniques to ensure its longevity.
The project is slated for completion by August, promising not only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of our beloved City Hall but also to preserve its structural integrity for future generations.
