I am a resident of Plattsburgh, graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh for both my Bachelor’s & Master’s Degree, a 3rd grade teacher at Beekmantown Elementary School, a mother of 3 children under the age of 8, a special needs parent, co-admin of Plattsburgh Moms Group, and a huge advocate for the potential of this area to create and continue opportunities for families, economics, and culture & diversity.

Inclusive Playground

Kate Woodward Trombley•3 years ago I think this plan is absolutely gorgeous. I love the fishing pier, the rain garden, and the gazebo. The playground plan looks amazing but I would like to see 1-2 baby/adult swings - it is one swing that has a baby seat attached to a frame so a parent and child can face each other and swing together. A handicap swing? I would also like to see park benches, waste receptacles, dog waste bags, and perhaps a few splash pad fountains like in Betty Little Park? I am very happy to see a bathroom…perhaps piping could be plumbed from there for a season splash pad. The downtown splash pad has REALLY brought families in - it would nice to see the often forgotten South end have something to like this. The plans are truly beautiful!

Dog Park & Playground

Kate Woodward Trombley•3 years ago The plans gets better as I go! Wow, wow, wow. Love the ACTIVE fenced in dog park with obstacle course (not just an open area for dogs to run). The playgrounds are really going to add so much to family lifestyles in the area. Truly pivotal in the facelift of the city. Again, would love to see 1-2 parent child swings, handicap swing, wheelchair swing, etc. The open air gazebo will be great for families to gather for celebrations. I am wondering about camera surveillance for all of the parks to deter vandalism - they are so beautiful and I think it is a good idea to have substantial night time lighting and closed-circuit cameras.

Peter Blumette Park Comment

Kate Woodward Trombley•3 years ago It would not allow me to submit on the Blumette park after several attempts. Posting it here.I love the mound landforms, will be great for sensory play for children and sledding for younger children. Is there a bathroom at this park? I may have missed it but a bathroom would help with waste issues of families and the public using this space. I would like to see more playground equipment here - it does seem to be lacking. Perhaps even swings or a free standing rock wall, like at Point au Roche Beach? Love the retention of the ice rink and basketball court.

Splash pad and Fencing

Kate Woodward Trombley•3 years ago I’m extremely happy to see the inclusion of a fence separating the playground and the road but am worried that a split rail fence will still allow toddler and children to run into Boynton Avenue, which I have seen many times. As ugly as chain link fencing is, we may require something with smaller gapping. I am very excited to see a splash pad at this high traffic area! Yes!! The beautiful band shell will be ideal for Battle of Plattsburgh, summer concert series’, 4th of July, local theater groups, and Mayors Cup. I am VERY happy to see this stage happening!

Wheelchair Accessible Playground

Kate Woodward Trombley•3 years ago I love the wheelchair accessible playground. This is an amazing plan for the many children who use this field for sports, and their families. I love that there is a plan for bathrooms - this is greatly needed at this spot. I assume diaper changing stations will be available inside. Again, I’m hoping we have a camera surveillance system to maintain the beauty of this space. Fantastic planning!
